While we are excited to be resuming our in-person worship outside, we understand the reality that not every person can come to a worship in person, or feels comfortable coming to worship yet. For that reason we encourage folks to stay home if they need to, and to tune in on Facebook or Zoom. If you or your loved ones need anything, please contact Pastor Jack

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING LETTER FROM REV. SONDRA AND REV. CHERYL
"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."   Phil 4:6-7

Dear Beloved Evergreen Christian Church Community,
We wanted to reach out to you in these strange, unsettling and challenging times.  Times when we long to be together, but must find new and creative ways to support one another, worship and be the church of reaching out in love in the world.
These times can cause us to feel isolated, alone, discouraged, lonely, uncertain, even depressed.  We do not want you to go through these emotions and experiences alone.  We may not be able to come to your home for a visit, but we would like to connect via phone calls or emails, whatever is most comfortable for you.  We want to walk this unchartered territory with you.

If you need supplies, because you need to self-isolate, stay safe at home or quarantine, please let us know so we can coordinate and get you what you need.

Healthy Ideas for a time of Staying Home more often:
1.     Keep a routine or a schedule.
2.    Begin or maintain a prayer journal.  Write the names and concerns of others in your journal, update it each day and pray for all in           the journal at a scheduled time each day.
3.     Write letters to send those who may feel alone, old friends you haven’t been in touch with for a while, or family members who
would love to hear from you.
4.    Make at least one phone call a day to check in with another person.
5.    Read that book that has been sitting on the shelf for years.
6.    Read the Bible, maybe some of the stories we often ignore or forget to read.
7.    Cook something new!  Even do the “Pantry Challenge!”  That is where you find items in your pantry and refrigerator and create
something new and edible with the items.
8.    Depending on your health and own situation—get some exercise.  Stretch, walk around your home or your block, etc.
9.    Clean out that drawer or closet and look for treasures.  Find things that can be donated when it is safe to do so.
10.  Sing, play an instrument or listen to the old records, CD’s.  The radio works too!  Sing some old hymns of joy and praise.

This is a challenging time, but we do not walk it alone.  God is with us.  God is guiding us.
God will be keep God’s community together as we continue to be in ministry together.

Evergreen Jazz Festival & Gospel Service held every year at ECC!
Picture
It was fantastic!!!  George, Nancy, Sandy and Gloria began on Thursday and continued on until Sunday evening prepping the building, and “Food Court”. Dave, Judy and Bob provided support with the bulletins, and schlepping stuff around the place.
The Sunday service was amazing as usual.  George provided excellent leadership for the service that included about 220-230 participants. Rev. Richard Ward did another outstanding job of sharing his message that was well received by all.  Queen City Jazz Band and Wende Harston were inspirational. The offering generated approximately $600 for Beyond the Rainbow, $600 for Tennyson Center, and $600 for ECC! Sandy was still tallying results from the “Food Court” but the response from patrons was that the food at ECC was GREAT, and at a GREAT price!

Fundraise for ECC while you shop at King Soopers
Every time you shop at King Soopers and swipe your King Soopers loyalty card or use the phone number connected to your King Soopers account at checkout you could be fundraising for ECC. The King Soopers Community Rewards Program donates to local organizations based on the shopping you do, and you can direct these funds to ECC. Here are instructions for linking your King Soopers Plus Card to the ECC Community Rewards account:
  1. Go to: https://www.kingsoopers.com/signin?redirectUrl=/account/communityrewards/
  2. Sign in to your account
  3. Type "Evergreen Christian Church" into the search box labeled "Find an Organization"
  4. Click on the blue "Enroll" button in the ECC box.
You must have a registered King Soopers loyalty card account to link to ECC. If you do not yet have a King Soopers loyalty card, you can get one at the customer service desk at King Soopers. For more detailed instructions go to: https://www.kingsoopers.com/topic/community-rewards-9

If you participated in this program in the past, please note that the new program is integrated into your regular King Soopers loyalty card. All you have to do is connect your card to ECC through the above steps.

Our thanks to Dave Killen and ECC CPA Amy Ellis for getting ECC set up in the Community Rewards Program.
ECC Google Reviews
We are working to further develop ECC's online presence because most people begin getting to know a church online before they ever visit the church building. This includes both visitors and potential applicants for the settled pastor position at ECC. Helps us share about ECC's ministry by completing a Google Review of ECC.
So far ECC has two Google Reviews, both 5 stars! Please take five minutes to write a thoughtful review for ECC to give others a sense of what you value about your church and spread the good news!
Here are Instructions for writing a Google Review for ECC:
  1. Do a Google search for “Evergreen Christian Church”
  2. On the right hand column on the search results page you will see a listing for ECC with a photo and map. Underneath buttons labeled website, directions, and save, you’ll see in blue lettering “2 Google reviews” (the number here will change as you add reviews). Click on “Google reviews” and a popup window will appear.
  3. Click on the blue button “Write a review” in the popup window.
Select the number of stars you want to rate ECC (1 is worst, 5 is best) and type in your thoughtful review above the gray line where the text reads "Share details of your own experience at this place" and click "post" to post your review publicly to the internet so others can read it.

Open & Affirming Process

Picture
We've completed our six-week Open & Affirming process and will hold a ritual of affirmation and confirmation this Sunday at the end of our Easter worship service to become designated as an Open and Affirming ministry of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Open and Affirming Ministries commit to openly welcome and affirm persons of all gender expressions and sexual orientations to the table of Christ's communion and to the full life and leadership of the Christian Church.

Last Sunday we worked together on an Open and Affirming Statement, and here is the final result, fine tuned by the Working Group this week, and reviewed by some of our LGBTQ+ friends to make sure that our intentions came across accurately to them:

Evergreen Christian Church affirms and celebrates LGTBTQ+ individuals and families to be authentically who they are. We invite all to join in life’s faith journey, to serve together, and to create a safe haven for the marginalized. Together, we will continue to seek to understand the challenges of the Church to live out the mission of Christ in the world.

You are encouraged to participate in the full six-week process. We will post weekly updates of our progress and resources on our Open & Affirming blog page.

Disciples LGBTQ+ Alliance Membership Challenge

Evergreen Christian Church is now listed on the Disciples LGBTQ+ Alliance list of Open & Affirming Congregations of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Updates to the listing are coming soon to include Reverends Sondra Tilsley and Cheryl Breiner as pastors, along with a photo of the church with your Open & Affirming statement.

The Disciples LGBTQ+ Alliance has invited ECC to participate in their
Membership Challenge. The Alliance challenges all O&A congregations to have at least 10% of their membership be members of the Alliance, and we know ECC can easily surpass the 10% goal! You can join the Alliance by going to: http://disciplesallianceq.org/main/contribute/. Memberships start at $45. Students and low income individuals can join for $15. If you are already a member of the Alliance, please email Rev. Mark Johnston at mark@disciplesallianceq.org, to let him know that you should be added to ECC's membership listing in the Alliance database.
