A Resource on Addiction and the Trans Community

11/9/2020

Sunshine Behavioral Health has reached out to us here at Evergreen Christian Church to highlight the unique ways in which addiction affects the transgender community.

This helpful guide explains, in understandable terms, what the gender spectrum is and what is means to be transgender and then further details how addiction and mental health disorders acutely affect the transgender community and why the amount of addiction and mental health disorders are higher in the transgender community.

The resource then gives some example of how to improve rehab outcomes for transgender persons and gives a number of resources for mental health and health providers to use in order to provide better care for their transgender patients. Included in the resource guide are also several support and mental health resource numbers for individuals to contact.

If you are wondering about substance abuse and mental health wellness in the transgender community and resources to provide better care for transgender people, please look at their resource guide!

Small Resource on The Bible and LGBTQ People

11/5/2020

Our friends from St. Hugh of Lincoln Episcopal Church, Elgin, IL reached out to us to share a resource they created concerning LGBTQ+ persons and scripture. They share in this resource examples of varieties of gender expression in the Bible, refutations of anti-LGBTQ+ "clobber" scriptures, and LGBTQ+ affirming scriptures. The Bible is a text that is composed of writings in different languages, from many different authors from many different cultures and contexts, and comes to us with a history of interpretation and for many loaded with feelings. This resource in neither exhaustive, nor definitive but it is a good way in which to start engaging with a Biblical text that affirms and celebrates LGBTQ+ people.

You can find the resource here:

You can also contact Pastor Jack if you would like to talk about this topic.
